To be a great baseball player requires a multitude of skills. Before other skills can be developed the basic skills of hitting, throwing and running are foremost and must be well-mastered. More specifically this means that you must have the ability to:
  • Throw with good technique (mechanics). This is especially important for a pitcher.
  • Run with good technique (form). You will then be able to run with great speed without getting injured.
  • Hit the ball well for power and distance. With good hitting technique you will have more hits and fewer strikeouts.
  • Accelerate quickly for 5 to 25 yards. The shorter distances are for infielders; the longer distances are for running the bases and to get to well-hit balls.
  • Achieve high-level development of the physical abilities specific to each of the skills.
  • Display good reaction time and a quick first step. This is especially important for infielders.
  • Develop excellent vision for hitting and fielding.
When your technique is coupled with development of your physical abilities as they relate to your technique, you will be able to execute the most important baseball skills as needed for high level play.
