Baseball
To be a great baseball player requires a multitude of skills. Before other skills can be developed the basic skills of hitting, throwing and running are foremost and must be well-mastered. More specifically this means that you must have the ability to:
- Throw with good technique (mechanics). This is especially important for a pitcher.
- Run with good technique (form). You will then be able to run with great speed without getting injured.
- Hit the ball well for power and distance. With good hitting technique you will have more hits and fewer strikeouts.
- Accelerate quickly for 5 to 25 yards. The shorter distances are for infielders; the longer distances are for running the bases and to get to well-hit balls.
- Achieve high-level development of the physical abilities specific to each of the skills.
- Display good reaction time and a quick first step. This is especially important for infielders.
- Develop excellent vision for hitting and fielding.
