I’ve been receiving quite a few reports from coaches and athletes telling me how the book, Secrets of Russian Sports Fitness and Training, has been their “bible” in establishing effective and successful training programs. They tout this book as being responsible for much of their success.
I am always happy to hear such comments especially in view of the hundreds, if not thousands, of books aimed at training athletes. It is especially gratifying to know that the knowledge gained from this book is being applied in a correct and effective manner.
All too often people skim informational books, only stopping to read a few small sections in more detail. As a result, they often miss critical information. As a result they do not get the complete picture of the concept or information being presented. Understand that comprehending some of the scientifically-based information can take several readings.
In Secrets of Russian Sports Fitness and Training the information is quite diverse but yet, concentrated in the major areas that have been found to be the “secret” to successful development and improvement of an athlete. There are no shortcuts in the training of an athlete. No one can get to the top without following the basic guidelines and progressions.
However, these basics are often ignored and coaches and athletes look for shortcuts, as for example, taking steroids. In a way they make the training of an athlete more complex and more difficult by doing this. They rely on external factors that usually affect the training in a negative manner but that can never replace the training that must be done.
Reading the book Secrets of Russian Sports Fitness and Training presents simple and easy to understand concepts and guidelines that when applied, can result in successful development of an athlete. I found this out many years ago and am always gratified that others are also finding this to be true.
One of the reasons for the continued success of this book is that it presents guidelines and information that can be considered new to U.S. coaches and athletes. All too often we still have coaches and university professors who disregard and refuse to look at Russian training methods; methods that enabled them to achieve worldwide recognition and success.
These individuals still believe that success of the Soviets (Russians) was due only to drugs. This could not be further from the truth. They played a relatively small role and were used for only a short period of time. If you take a look at this book and apply some of the information in your training, I can guarantee you that it will make you more successful in your game play.
