Do Athletes Need Supplements?

This may appear to be a foolish question, since almost all athletes use some form of supplementation. They believe the supplements are very important for their well-being and are needed to enhance their training and competitive abilities. And, to a good extent, they are right. Studies have shown that even with the most nutritious training tables, the nutrients supplied are not enough to replace what has been used up in some trainings. Nor is there ample nutrition to satisfy the needs for supercompensation, the key to increases in strength, speed, endurance, etc.

Most important in supplementation, however, is that the products be made out of whole foods rather than synthetic chemicals. Don’t rely on the term “natural” as it has been so abused that very often it means synthetic. When you use whole food supplements, you will see much more dramatic results.
