We Prefer Accessories Not Science

Every year I get the latest catalogs from various fitness/sports equipment companies. I peruse them to see some of the latest pieces of equipment that are becoming or have become trendy.

As I go through them I am constantly impressed with the concepts and accessories presented. But when I compare the equipment and their write-ups to what actually happens in many exercises and in execution of sports skills, it usually leaves much to be desired.

Some of the equipment extols virtues that do not exist. Some value can be found in most pieces of equipment in that they can provide some benefit, even if only variety to different exercise programs.

In regard to the sports equipment they range from some excellent pieces to the very poor. The bottom line is that the buyer must beware. You must know what the exact outcomes will be and how the equipment should be used to get any and all benefit from the equipment.

In other words, you must have a good handle on what constitutes effective training and the equipment that should be used – if any – to achieve the objectives. Do not be impressed with the equipment and the suggested outcomes if you do not know how well they function.
