Marathon Recovery

Many more runners now running the marathon. For most runners this run is very difficult and takes a lot out of the body. Many runners have difficulty even completing a marathon! Finishing one not only exhausts the body but often creates additional problems that they did not previously have.

 

As a result, it requires weeks of recovery. Because of this many runners are now asking how can they recover faster after completing a marathon.

 

Recovering from a marathon, however, has more than one side. Not only do you want to get back to feeling normal again but you want to get rid of the pain and injuries and be able to once again run as previously.

 

As a general rule you should never stop running in recovery. The only exception is when you have an injury caused by the running that will be exacerbated by additional running. When you do running for recovery it should be at a relatively slow speed in comparison to what you experienced in running the marathon.

 

Long slow distance running is great for recovery and this applies to athletes on all levels. Depending upon each individual person, recovery will be different. In addition to the running, it is also valuable to use different recovery methods such as sports massage, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, nutrition and so. All of these can play a very valuable role.

 

If some of these are not accessible, you can use some of the more common recovery methods such as self massage, the jacuzzi for some hydrotherapy, plus different kinds of showers, hot and cold contrasting baths etc. Many of these methods that can be used even during regular training.

 

These methods will help you recover faster and enable you to do even more running. Instead of waiting or taking days or weeks off without doing anything, use these well proven methods to recover. Not doing anything is the worst way to get yourself back to normal.
