According to A.P. Bondarchuk, former world record holder and presently coach of world record holders in the hammer throw, individualization applies to specificity of learning, improving exercise technique, developing the needed physical abilities and planning the workouts for a specific training cycle. In an article published in the FITNESS & SPORTS REVIEW INTERNATIONAL, Bondarchuk states that extreme increases in intensity either reduce the athlete’s performances or produce a prolonged plateau. This occurs because the athlete’s body is constantly in extreme conditions and is so sensitive to the excessive intensity that sometimes even a slight increase produces the opposite effect.
An individualized approach should be used in regard to training methods and in training volume and intensity. The rash, unfounded pursuit of quantity and quality in training loads produces nothing but harm.
