Is Eating Foods Low in Cholesterol Sufficient?

According to Dr. Toby Watkinson, board certified clinical nutritionist at Scripps medical offices in Del Mar, California, who uses nutrition to treat many complex problems of the body, to reduce cholesterol by merely avoiding foods that are high in cholesterol is not always the panacea for improvement. As reported in the FITNESS & SPORTS REVIEW INTERNATIONAL, Watkinson believes that it is important to have adequate amounts of anti-oxidants since it is the oxidized cholesterol which is most dangerous.

Beneficial fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acids and the EPA’s and DHA’s from cold water fish are very important in reducing bad cholesterol. Dr. Watkinson has done many studies showing that combinations of these ingredients are very effective in lowering cholesterol and in improving the ratio of good cholesterol (HDL’s) to bad cholesterol (LDL’s). More importantly these products provide the body with essential nutrients which enable it to function at a high level of healthy energy.
